2024 Policy Changes

It is time to ensure fair compensation for the hands-on treatment approach you have come to expect...

Winter is officially upon us! These past few weeks the sun has been rising so late that no effort was needed to witness stunning sunrises. Meanwhile the stars are already twinkling as we sit down to eat dinner. It’s wild! But it won’t go on for much longer.

Thursday’s winter solstice marks both the darkest day of the year as well as the advent of the growing light. As we close out the last season and prepare for the New Year, it’s both a celebratory time as well as an opportunity for reflection.

What are we ready to leave behind? What do we want to carry forward? In what direction is our inner light leading us?

As a TEAM of providers, we’ve also been reflecting on what is and isn’t working.

Our first priority, always, is to provide exceptional treatments and support for our patients. But to do that, we also need to be compensated for our work.

Unfortunately, as you are most likely aware, most insurance companies do not consider many of our treatment modalities beyond acupuncture needling to be “medically necessary,” —even though these techniques have withstood the test of time for thousands of years as effective tools for healing.

Research continues to explore the profound effects that therapies like moxibustion, cupping, gua sha and bodywork can have on both mental and physical health. However, due to limited funding opportunities, their effectiveness hasn’t ‘caught on’ with the Health Insurance carriers quite yet.

As a result, practitioners often don’t get reimbursed for the time and energy we put in, sometimes getting paid as little as $5 from the insurance companies. As you could imagine, reimbursement policies like this make it difficult to sustain our overhead & is not sustainable; which is we are instating a new pricing policy.

Beginning in 2024, we will charge an extra fee for services that are not covered by your health insurance plan. This applies to some, but not all insurance plans (e.g. CHP Group, Pacific Source...)

Rates are as follows:

  • Cupping/Gua sha: $25

  • Massage: $30

We promise to only recommend treatments that we believe will best support your healing & we will:

  • Speak with you before providing these treatments; ensuring you are aware with additional cost.

  • Never charge you for services that are reimbursed through your health plan.

Please reach out to us with any questions about our new policy, we want to make this transition as smooth as possible for everyone. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Wishing you and yours a joyous holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

In Health,

TEAM Mill-E-Moto
