Okinawan Movement & Mindfulness: Level 2

Eight-Week Series: Thursday Evenings (7:30-8:30pm)

May 1st - June 19th

Onsite @Mill-e-Moto

Join Ryan for a six week series of mindful-based movement. This series further explores aspects traditional Okinawan movement & mindfulness practices. At the end of the series you will have learned a form of moving meditation & body conditioning that you can practice on your own.

This series is based on the foundational aspects of Uechi Ryu, a traditional Okinawa martial art. Each class will start and finish with a brief sitting meditation, we will then explore traditional exercise methods and focus on three key training aspects:

  • Junbi Undō: A series of standing movements that focus on tendon stretching & warm-up for the class

  • Sanchin: A form of moving/active meditation, it is deceptively simple in appearance. Literally translated as "three fights/conflicts," often interpreted as "Mind, Body and Spirit."

  • Kitae: A form of body conditioning that strengthens the fascia/muscle layers & immune system.

These are not 'martial' in application (i.e. no 'karate' will be taught).

Ryan has continuously practiced Uechi Ryu Karate-Do, for 20+ years  (since '99) with Clark Jones (deceased 2022) and now under the guidance of John Evans. Both of his teachers have continuously studied with Walter Mattson, who in turn has been under the guidance of Grandmaster Shintoku Takara for 50+yrs. In the fall of 2021 Ryan was requested to test for the rank of 6th Dan and was granted the rank/title of Renshi.

This series is limited to 6 people & will fill quickly
