Ryan attended Colby-Sawyer College for his B.S. in Exercise Science and received his Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAcOM) Degree from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM; 2005). Ryan is a Diplomat in Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and is certified to practice acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Tuina (Chinese massage), and to teach Qi Gong. After graduating, Ryan traveled to China for advanced studies in Chinese herbal medicine at the International Training Center at the Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In addition to his foundational training in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ryan has studied several Japanese styles of treatment: meridian therapy, Koshi Balancing, Sawada style moxibustion, and Sotai Ho. An associate Faculty member within the Department of Research in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine at OCOM, Ryan has been involved with acupuncture research since 2001. Passionate about Uechi Ryu Karate-Do, a traditional Okinawan martial art, he has continuously practiced for ~20 years.

Ryan specializes in orthopedic and sports-based acupuncture. To maximize treatment effects, he draws from all of these disciplines, including motor point release techniques, a form of sports acupuncture. When not in clinic, Ryan can be found enjoying the out-of-doors at the coast or on the mountain.
