What to expect during treatment

Needling using a guide tube for quick and painless insertions

Initial acupuncture visits are 90 minutes. This allows ample time for a thorough review of your symptoms and body systems. Getting the whole picture about you, rather than just the condition you are coming in for, allows us to provide a comprehensive treatment plan including frequency of acupuncture visits, herbal formulas (if necessary), lifestyle modifications, and Qi gong or other movement home exercises. Follow-up visits are 45-60 minutes long.

Many treatments can be performed fully clothed with access to areas such as arms, legs, and abdomen. Wearing loose fitted clothing is recommended. Gowns and proper draping techniques are used if we need to work on broader areas such as shoulders, hips or the entire back. Also, it is best to refrain from caffeine 1-2hrs prior to acupuncture.

During the treatment, we may assess your movement for patterns of distortion/dysfunction. We will likely gently palpate the acupuncture channels along the arms, legs and neck to check for internal imbalances that have manifested along the skin surface. We often palpate the abdomen and check the pulses many times during the treatment to help us diagnose which organ systems (e.g. liver and large intestine systems) are out of balance.

Depending on the style of acupuncture we think is best for you, we may perform different needling techniques that can be combined with adjunctive modalities such as a infrared heat lamp, cupping, electro acupuncture and moxibustion.

We ask that you follow your treatment plan and discuss any questions or concerns you may have with us. Your path is unique to You. Our goal is to work with you to create a realistic and empowering treatment plan to assist you in achieving your healthcare goals.
