Benefits of Qi Gong

Although Qi Gong has been practiced for thousands of years in China, it is just beginning to take root in America. Some are calling it “Chinese Yoga”.  Modern research (although still limited) shows positive health benefits with regular practice including:

– Reduction of blood pressure and improved cardiovascular health
– Increased bone density

– Improved immune function
– Improvements in balance, strength and flexibility
– Decreased anxiety, depression and stress
– Increased sense of confidence, well-being and overall quality of life.

Changes in health do not occur overnight. Positive changes occur with regular practice over weeks, months and years.  Qi gong is one of the four foundations of Traditional Chinese medicine along with acupuncture, herbs and massage;  is not just an exercise, but was created as a way to intentionally and consciously improve and cultivate good health.  Most people experience an immediate sense of relaxation; shifting into a quiet state of mind after a single practice. Doing this regularly is when we begin to see physiological changes. Cultivating a deeply calm and relaxed state is the first step in allowing our bodies to return to balance.
